Just when we thought that lawnmowers couldn’t get any more innovative, convenient and user friendly than the Roomba, along comes the aptly named ‘Solar-Charged Remote Control Electric Lawn Mower’ invented by Robert S. Smith. Not only is it interesting looking and more convenient than its traditional counterparts, it is probably cheaper than ride-on mowers too which is always good although the name could do with trimming down a bit as we though even referred to as a SCRCELM, it is a bit of a mouthful.

When selecting mowers to sell in their stores, manufacturers state that the retailers look for models at the $999 price mark and MTD and Lowe’s both chose rear-engine rider Neighbourhood Rider at that price point. Hidden amongst the gasoline guzzling conventional heavy farm equipment at the Green Industry and Equipment Expo (GIE+Expo), stand next year’s line-up of ‘green’ walk-behind mowers.
This may have something to do with the fact that the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) are getting stricter with their regulations next year and are introducing a new requirement that all walk-behind mowers should emit 34 percent less hydrocarbons than they did five years ago. This adds to the regulation that was already put in place for lawn tractors and riding mowers last January.
